I have been a fan of the smokey aroma of burning white sage since college. I purchased a sage stick at a Farmer's Market because the label read "Purification for a room." Well, I was moving into an apartment that had a vibe of shadiness to me, so I thought, "Perfect!" Before fully moving into the place, I cleaned vigorously and then burned a bit of my sage stick, praying God would make the space a peaceful one, from wall to wall.
Since then, I've learned much more about botanicals, including how to make my very own aroma sticks with white sage and other herbs. White sage specifically, has been used traditionally to purify the mind, body, and spirit, often before or accompanied by prayers. Native Americans also used white sage in ceremonies. Like essential oils, I appreciate the aromatherapy properties that are released when smudging (aka burning) these beautiful botanicals. Check out the herb list below to discover what pairs well with white sage and how to use the botanical aroma sticks!
