Botanical House Cleaners

Updated: Aug 7, 2022

Good morning~

As I glance around my house, I see windows that need washing, a floor that needs scrubbing, and shelves that shout, "Please dust me!" For years I have been using natural/plant based cleaners for my home and business. I do purchase these natural cleaners (from companies such as Seventh Generation and ECO), but oftentimes, I create my own! As I sip my coffee amidst my comfortable home that needs a weekend warrior cleaning spree, I'd like to share with you a few of my favorite natural formulas:

Rose Water Glass Cleaner

1/2 cup white distilled vinegar

1/2 cup rubbing alcohol

1 cup rose water

1 cup water

This recipe makes 3 cups of cleaner, so feel free to double it if you want more. I have a friend who loves the rose aroma, so she adds 2 cups of rose water versus the 1 cup- totally up to you and your nose! :). Add these ingredients to a spray bottle and wipe away on your windows. You will find that they sparkle afterward!

Lemon Floor Cleaner

(Use on laminate, concrete, linoleum)

2 cups of hot water

2 cups of white distilled vinegar

1/2 cup of lemon juice OR 20 - 30 drops of lemon essential oil) depending on how strong you like the lemon aroma). I LOVE lemon, so I use 30+ drops!

* For wood floors- Add 1/2 cup of olive oil to your mix to enrich the wood's shine!

Mix ingredients in a small bucket or spray bottle and apply to the floor. No need to rinse this solution. Simply apply to your floor and scrub away!

Wonders of Hydrogen Peroxide

Besides vinegar and essential oils, I always have Hydrogen peroxide on hand. It is a marvelous cleaner and disinfectant! It can:

  • Kill mold.

  • Remove stains (including teeth stains- try as a mouthwash).

  • Sanitize items such as counter tops and cutting boards.

Soft Chemistry (All-Purpose Surface Cleaner)

¼ cup white distilled vinegar

1 cup warm water + 2 Tbsp. hydrogen peroxide

20 drops essential oil (try eucalyptus, orange, lemon, or grapefruit oil)

Put in a glass bottle and shake. Use a cloth to wipe surfaces. No need to rinse.

Do not want to make your own? I got you covered!
